By Venkat Ramakrishnan | Project Leader
![Bhavananjali]()
Bhavananjali
Bhavananjali studies in 5th grade at Isha Vidhya
Salem school. She started studying at Isha
Vidhya in the 1st grade. She lost her father when
she was 10 years old. She is from a poor family
background.
When we asked Bhavananjali to share about her
experience at Isha Vidhya, she enthusiastically
shared things that are precious to her at Isha
Vidhya, which have changed her life. She
appreciates thePower English class rooms and
the Power English teachers, because they inspired
her through some new vocabulary. She tells us that
one of her family memberswasimpressed by her
spoken English, because she was able to
communicate in English very well, even in 5th grade.
She also likes the veranda activity. Through this
activity, she is having fun learning all the subjects,
especially English, because the teachers are giving
writing exercises in an extensive way. This helps her
in being innovative. Activities like assembly and
veranda activities moulded her to be good in spoken
English, and improved her confidence.
Next comes in her favorite list is the Math lab. Math
lab is very interesting for her, because by using the
math kits, she is able to add and subtract easily,
and it is very useful for her day-to-day life. Art &
Crafts class is the most enjoyable class for her! She
learntthe new method of creating art, and can do
any of the learnt craft easily. She says that the
teachers always motivate her to invent new ideas,
and help her mother to encourage her in this aspect.
Bhavananjali thanksIsha Vidhya family the
scholarship, which provided her valuable education
and life skills.

Manoranjani studies in the 9th grade at the
Cuddalore Isha Vidhya school.
Her father is mentally disabled. At first, she
studied at a government school. After getting
to know about Isha Vidhya’s scholarship
scheme, her relatives approached the school
for her admission. The village head of
Manoranjani’s village also described us
about her family background, and requested
us to give admission for her with scholarship.
She joined in the 2nd grade with full education
scholarship. When she joined, her studies
were okay, but she was hesitantto mingle
with other children. By providing continuous
nurturing, the teachers oriented the student
towards the path of progress.
Now she excels in academics. She also has
a keen interest in Art and Craft activities. She
participated in an exhibition, and got the First

Harini studies in grade 5 at the Dharmapuri
Isha Vidhya school. She started with grade 2
at the school. Harini's father was an alcoholic.
Harini’s mother suffered a lot because of her
father’s alcoholism, even from day one of the
marriage. Harini’s father then got affected by
brain cancer. The family spent around 3 lakh
rupees for his medical expenses. But the
treatment was not able to save him. Harini's
mother now lives with her five children. Being
a single parent, she struggles a lot to run the
family.
Though she owns a petty shop, the revenue is
pretty less and is not sufficient to run the family.
She is doing the tailoring work at home to earn
extra income. She feels very bad that she is not
able to buy new clothes for her kids during
festival times. At times, she is not even able to
feed her children.
The siblings of Harini are studying at nearby
government schools. Our teachers told Harini’s
mother about the student education sponsorship
at Isha Vidhya, so Harini joined the Dharmapuri
Isha Vidhya school.
Her mother now fees happy about the educational
support given to Harini. She says that her sufferings
should never affect her children. She thanked
Isha Vidhya and the donors for giving the opportunity
to Harini for her education.
Editor’s note: Students like Harini are getting their
education sponsored through big-hearted donors
like you. To help continue Isha Vidhya’s cause of
educating rural children with quality education,
you may want to consider starting a recurring
donation for a small amount, so that you can be
continually engaged with Isha Vidhya’s work. Thank
you for all you have done for Isha Vidhya!
