Hello Donors!
We are so pleased to deliver a final update to you about our active programs in Texas! Because of you, and the added support of GlobalGiving’s own Hurricane Harvey funds, so much has been made possible over the past year for the families and children affected by hurricane Harvey. Our work is not yet finished in Texas; in fact, we will remain in Houston and the Coastal Bend area through 2019 continuing incredibly important work there! We are prepared to deliver this final update to you as a chance to look back at what has been accomplished to date, but also to let you know we have reached our fundraising goals for this critical program. Thank you for helping us make this happen – your generosity has made a life-changing impact for so many.
After hurricane Harvey hit, so many families were reeling from the storm’s enormous destruction, a result of strong winds, torrential downpours, significant storm-surges and devastating flooding. So far, 3,245 volunteers have heeded the call for help, and since Aug 28 of 2017 have donated 24,717 days of work to help desperate communities in two program locations recover from absolute catastrophe. We are one year into this project, steadily seeing the efforts of our teams pay off in inspiring ways.
The first four months of this project required mucking and gutting, mold removal and prevention, and chainsaw work to clear roads and properties. Beginning in January, our teams began transitioning to recovery work, which includes the repair of homes and other community structures. One year out from the storm, All Hands and Hearts had completed 399 muck/gut jobs and 144 mold sanitation jobs, a school repair, and 20 home repairs. 2,422 individuals have been able to pick up the pieces of their lives again, thanks to the generosity of GlobalGiving donors whose support turned the compassion of dedicated volunteers into powerful engines of recovery and hope. As this pace of work continues, our teams anticipate completing between six -seven repairs a month going forward. By the time the program is completed, we will have turned over 100 more damaged, unsafe houses into healthy, live-able homes! !
Our ability to push ahead for another year has also been made possible by support from Taube Philanthropies, TUMI, The American Red Cross, the JJ Watt Foundation, The Center for Disaster Philanthropy, and local United Ways and community foundations.
The generosity of these organizations made so much possible; but, at the end of the day we reserve special thanks for our GlobalGiving donors, who have supported All Hands and Hearts from the beginning as we work every day to help those that need it the most. Your unwavering support makes hope and stability a reality for so many! Thank you for all that you have helped us accomplish. We are so excited to continue helping families and children get back to the best parts of life. On behalf of them, and our entire All Hands and Hearts Family, Thank you!
