Hello donors!
Recovery continues nearly 11 months after Hurricane Harvey forever changed the communities and lives of families in Texas. All Hands and Hearts’ teams in Houston and the Coastal Bend area work five days a week, leaving base at 7am every morning in order to get desperately needed work completed as soon as possible. Our teams are focusing on rebuilding homes, taking a home from the studs all the way to the installation of cabinets and light fixtures. This allows for families to return to a safe and secure place where they can begin to rebuild their lives. To date we have completed 15 home rebuilds across Texas with 6 homes currently in progress.
As mentioned in our last report, the work does not stop with homes. Through our close ties with the community in Northeast Houston we became aware of a school that needed assistance. The Rhodes School is a public charter school located in NE Houston serving low-income, at-risk students. Serving 1,100 students from pre-K to 8th grade across all campuses, the school incorporates music and arts into its daily curriculum. The Robert E. Lee campus was devastated by Hurricane Harvey, resulting in damage to all buildings on the campus and the loss of most school, technology and arts equipment. Our teams are hard at work rebuilding classrooms and handicapped ramps, free of charge. The school is set to be complete mid-August, just in time for the children to return for the school year.
As always, we thank GlobalGiving and donors like you for the continued support of our work in Texas. We have committed to two years in Texas in order to serve the greatest needs in communities impacted by Hurricane Harvey. Please continue to stay up to date with our work and follow our other programs across the world!
Thank you!
