Success Story: Rajwati – Kharkhari Village, Tauru, Haryana
Setting Example by Breaking all Odds
Rajwati is one of the motivated members of the Self Help Group (SHG) attending Sukarya’s Spice & Cereal processing Unit dedicated to women empowerment. She has been instrumental and source of inspiration for other rural women who also come along with her, travelling across 50 km per day from Kharkhari Village, Haryana to Gurugram.
When asked about what motivates her to connect with Sukarya on a regular basis, she says "I am able to earn my livelihood and support my family. I would like to educate all my 5 children and provide them good life so they won't suffer as I did. I live in poverty, my husband does odd works and do not get regular employment which causes lots of struggling for survival for us but I am Thankful to Sukarya for providing me an opportunity to learn & earn my livelihood .“I want to learn the entire process of the micro business of cereal and spices. I would like to open my own business, one day." Rajwati has also been doing well in her village where she actively mobilized the rural women to form Self Help Groups. She helped them start savings through SHG forums and currently, she leads federation of 4 SHG groups having 48 members.
Progress Report (Sept - Dec 2018)
During this reporting period, fresh batch of rural self help group members were selected to connect with Sukarya’s Spice & Cereal Processing Unit.The women group has been considered based on their poor socio - economic background. The women have been on the job training and were provided with proper induction on the project, their roles and responsibilities and organizational systems and processes. The group was also inducted on crucial components of the business – store keeping, production, packaging, selling, and book keeping. While learning different components of micro business wthey were also earning to become economically self independent. Weekly review meetings were held to assess the progress, mitigate the challenges and motivate them to sustain in the unit.
