By Brien Ashdown | Executive Director of EFTC USA
Classes for the new school year have started here at the La Escuela de Esperanza (School of Hope) in Jocotenango, Guatemala. Each of our 600+ students are receiving a quality education, nutritious meals, access to medical care, emotional and mental health support, and the chance to work towards break the cycle of poverty in their community.
All of the work that Education for the Children (EFTC) is able to do at tLa Escuela de Esperanza is because of generous donations from people like you. Without our supporters, many of our students would be on the street begging or working in hazardous and dead-end jobs. It isn't uncommon to see children as young as five or six years old on the streets of Guatemala, shining shoes, selling wares, or begging for money. But because of you, our students don't have to worry about that - instead, they're in school learning to read, write, dance, sing, and play...just like kids should be doing!
Education for the Children and La Escuela de Esperanza have a lot of plans for the upcoming school year. We're planning workshops for parents and students on topics such as sex education and warmth-based parenting. We look forward to the medical and dental clinics we host for our community, and to the many volunteers who come and help us meet our goals. All of this requires support from generous people like you - so we hope you'll stay involved with us!
