Floods and Forced Evictions in Kibera.

By Nowel | Programs Assistant.

Despite the current flooding in Kenya, our mission to provide essential nourishment to children at our Project Elimu centre in Kibera continues, thanks to your commitment and support. Your contributions have enabled us to reach more children in need.

The recent flooding in Kenya has led to displacement, loss of life, and significant property damage. The flooding has resulted in the deaths of over 200 people, the displacement of thousands, and the destruction of numerous schools. While some areas have begun to recover, informal settlements remain affected due to the ongoing government directive to demolish houses within 30 metres of the river. This directive will result in the loss of homes and livelihoods for numerous families. Despite these obstacles, we remain committed to reaching more children in Kibera, offering them nourishment through our feeding program and the psychosocial support they require. We are grateful for your continued support as we work to provide relief and assistance to those in need during this challenging time.

Kevin 13 years, one of our program beneficiaries, found much-needed relief for his flood-displaced family by accessing food from the ram. He is quoted saying,

Coming to Project Elimu has helped me and my family a lot. The food we get here has sustained me and my siblings while our parents look for ways to get back on their feet. We have also gotten mentorship, which has helped me and my siblings to cope with the effects of the flood.”
