See how children learn best with fun

By Ray Schone | Project Leader

Dear YOUPSA Friends,

Play and having fun are more important than ever for keeping a healthy mind, while everyone faces unheard of challenges and uncertainty. This applies to both children and adults.

Over the past many months, YOUPSA has been doing home visits with the children to bring them creative care packages that are enjoyable and stimulating for them while they are still not at school. It's been a very long time now for the kids without school. The feedback that the children give us is that they are very moved by the care and stable relationship that they experience with us, especially during this difficult and often traumatizing time.

Thanks to incredibly kind supporters, YOUPSA has been able to continue helping the children during this time. We feel very grateful for this!

Our after-school programme has been up and running again for the past month. The children and families are so happy about this. For the children it is the only inspiration and the only safe place where they can learn new things and be free with their friends. This is absolutely life-saving for them.

So, you see, we have been busy... nothing is holding us back from working to uplift our rural children here. Please read more below about what you have helped us achieve.

YOUPSA turned FIVE in August!

Thanks to special friends and supporters, children and families, YOUPSA has come this far. During these 5 years we have impacted thousands of rural disadvantaged children and their communities in the Eastern Cape Province of South Africa.

More news from the children

During lockdown, kind donors like you enabled us to distribute creative care packages to the children. Included were coloured pencils, a drawing booklet, drawing paper, activities, a journal, eraser and sharpener, a stuffed toy, beautiful storybooks and healthy snacks.

The children used kaleidoscopes for the very first time! They could not stop looking at the different prisms and colourful patterns. Inspired by this, the mandala drawings they made afterwards were absolutely magnificent!

We introduced the 'Moving Patterns Game' to the kids. This is an active, self-directed game, featuring patterns, footwork, maths and friends. They just love learning maths this way!

An absolute hit with the children was reading the 'Hero In My Hood' story activity book about dog care and dog handling together.

YOUPSA's after-school children now have their very own lego set! They have never used legos before. We first built with the legos in teams before taking the lego sets home to play with.

We've also been making Tippy Taps. A Tippy Tap is a handwashing station that saves water and is cheap and easy to build.

Please help us keep the children safe, stimulated, creative and learning. Kindly consider continuing your support of our programmes.

With much gratitude and love,

the YOUPSA team
