Peace Winds America and Philippine partner Citizens' Disaster Response Center (CDRC) are completing a recovery program on Busuanga Island, Philippines. With donor support, PWA has been able to reach six hard-hit barangays (communities) on Busuanga Island, targeting livelihood recovery.
Our program has focused on repairing fishing boats and nets damaged by the typhoon, purchasing new tools, seeds, and animals for local farmers, providing seaweed/aquaculture ropes/seeds. CDRC has provided community-based disaster response and preparedness education. The important outcomes of this project are: local families are regaining their livelihoods, and communities are becoming better prepared for future disasters.
We envision completing the livelihoods recovery program within the next three months. At this time, we must pass to YOU, our donors, the gratitude of the families in the six barangays in Busuanga, Philippines. Without your support, we could not implement this recovery program.
We hope you will continue to support our livelihoods recovery efforts. Other fishing/farming communities on Busuanga Island are asking for assistance with boats, nets, animals—lost during Typhoon Haiyan. Even now, the need for disaster recovery remains. Your support maintains our commitment to typhoon recovery.
