Mushroom Theatre - 2021
By Graham Reeder | Secretary - Rotary Club of Westcliff-on-sea (UK)
Mushroom Theatre continues to flourish despite the ever present spector of Covid. We are taking all the necessary precautions but know that the children need continuos encouragement to overcome the lack of live performances. They have certainly appreciated the improvements that our GlobalGiving appeal has made possible and each and everyone would like to say 'thank you' for your generosity.
Nevertheless, there is still a way to go before we have all the equipment and second fixings that will enable us to really enjoy and perform professional shows. This particularly implies to our need for a more sophisticated sound system that will pick up all of our somewhat shy performers!
All donations are gratefully accepted and ensure that our students really enjoy and appreciate the environment Mushroom Theatre creates.
Thanks once again and a merry Christmas to you all.

After more than 18 months of Covid related challenges the Mushroom Theatre Company has now reopened its doors and students and volunteers can see how much our donations have improved their facilities. New curtains and enhanced lighting have enhanced the experience and they now eagerly await the sound module and improved audience facilities that have been promised.
Westcliff Rotary continue to raise money through many fund raising schemes, including quizes, progressive dinners and even sponsored haircuts! Easy during lockdown but challenging when restrictions begin to be lifted! We try to support many good causes ,whose problems have multiplied during covid lockdown, but always have the Mushroom Theatre in the back of our minds as the organisation ,perhaps, really benefits those children who have really suffered over the last 18 months. The need to interact is important for everyone as is the need to feel wanted in society. This is vitally important to children who are physically disabled. They really need our help so every penny raised goes towards making these children's life more enjoyable.
They will always need help as they are run by volunteers and parents. Westcliff Rotary are, therefore ,extremely pleased to be involved in such an exciting venture.

It has always been the focus of the charity to provide an inclusive performance space for our users and the wider community. Everywhere we perform has limitations for our performers, whether it is accessible stages, no disabled toilets back stage or doorways too small for our wheelchair useres to get through. We now have the area that can be used as a performance space and your funds have enabled us to begin fitting it out. Lights, curtains and toilets have been purchased and fitted and your efforts have enabled us to carry on working in an integrated way enabling our performers to have a dignified and exhilerating experience. We still have much to do but your fantastic donations have enabled us to 'open that door' to help our performers to compete more equally with those that are able bodied. Obviously there is still a way to go but, thanks to you all, we are all moving in the right direction.
