As we wrote in our last report, we have continued to raise the performances of our underserved participants who were cosigned to third rate education to a level in which they can now compete favourable with their rich peers who have the privilege of attending push private schools. We have continued to focus immensely on STEM education. We have continued our after school tutoring. The students are also waxing strong in the area of computer skills. Some of our students have been able to service as well as repair some of our computers.
In order to enhance the knowledge of the students beyond the four walls of the classroom while they are having fun as well, the Centre provide them an enriching experience taking them on excursions to Solid FM radio broadcasting station at Enugu and the Enugu Museum. The next major item in our agenda is our 2022 Academic and Skills Acquisition Maid Strong Boot Camp: July 20 to August 20. After a break in Boot Camp activities due to COVID-19 pandemic, Inwelle Centre will have its Boot Camp in July. Exciting projects are lined up. This year, the Boot Camp will give a greater part of its activities to teaching participants such higher computer skills as software installation, web design, and other high-level Information Technology skills that will leverage the participants to secure employment or become self-employed. Also, Inwelle Centre will be involved in intensive education for Girls in Science, Technology, Engineering and Math (STEM) to enable them join in Changing the World by applying technology to global challenges. This will cost $100.00 per participant.
We called for sponsors for the participants. Fifteen sponsors answered our call and donated to our Boot Camp. Some of them donated through the local currency into our Nigerian Naira bank account. Some donated through GlobalGiving. We hope that GlobalGiving will help us in disbursing that money before the Boot camp start in July and in helping bridge the gap for us. We still need five sponsors.
Specifications for the Boot Camp are
We hold a symposium in December (last Thursday before Christmas usually) to close the project year. Partnering communities are expected to bring all the youths trained in the year to attend this symposium as the youths receive certificates during this symposium. Also, we require resource people to come from each community to deliver a paper at the symposium. For 2022, our symposium topic is still on girls fostering peace through STEM, information technology, and making Maids Strong.
