Elizabeth, one of our LitMoms who participated in the LRC Annex ground breaking ceremony, is amazed! "I can't believe how fast the building is growing!"
Progress on the LRC Annex is moving swiftly. This week, the craftsmen are creating the casting of the slap that will be the rooftop patio. The rooftop patio space will be used for teacher meetings, parent workshops and social gatherings. The open sides will allow for a cross breeze while the roof will protect from the sun.
Students coming to the LRC for computer classes have heard that there is going to be a library in the new building. Not ever being in an indoors library, they are curious about what it will look like and excited to be able to select books from the shelves and study there. Meanwhile, our staff is excited that they will be able to have some proper office and meeting space. Once their offices are relocated, the current space will be converted into a Maker Space and Ed Tech Hub.
Our building is able to grow thanks to donors like you who ensured we had all the necessary funds to build the LRC Annex. In addition to providing space for our enrichment programs, teacher training and parent workshops, this project has provided jobs to dozens of local craftsmen who are helping to build the structure. We are proud that we are supporting the local economy and creating pride in Wamunyu.
On Wednesday, July 14 GlobalGivng is holding their annual July Bonus Day! Gifts of $100+ are eligible for matching funds on GlobalGiving and by our Board of Trustees who have pledged $7500 in matching funds. We are asking Kenya Connect friends to wave their "Magic Wands" to help more wishes come true! As you will see in the attached document, our staff is wishing for tables and chairs for the rooftop, more books, lego kits, and murals for the library! Your donation will help these wishes come true! We will be sending reminder emails as the date comes closer.
Thank you again for helping us build the LRC Annex! It's so much fun to share the pictures with you!
