War changes not only cities—it leaves deep scars in people’s hearts. Especially in the hearts of children. This is the story of a boy whose voice was taken by war.
He is only 4 years and 6 months old. He has already endured two forced relocations: first, the war drove him from his native Luhansk region, then from Kharkiv to Bucha. His father is a soldier defending Ukraine on one of the most dangerous frontlines. But war followed them not only with explosions. It invaded their lives with silence.
Due to the psychological trauma he suffered as a witness to active combat, the boy completely lost his ability to speak. He did not say a word. Not a single sound. His fear and pain found refuge in silence.
His mother, exhausted but full of hope, came to our center seeking help. Our speech therapist took on the challenge. We used everything: assistive tools, a sensory room, and special correctional methods. And then, one day, a miracle happened—the boy spoke again.
But war does not let go so easily. His speech returned, but it was unclear, with severe pronunciation difficulties. So, we began the next phase of his rehabilitation: correcting and automating sounds, developing phonemic awareness, expanding his vocabulary. It is a long and difficult road, and it is not over yet. But the most important step has been taken—he speaks again.
This story is about the pain of war, but it is also about the power of human kindness. We thank each and every one of you who helps us continue our work. Because of you, we can give children not only their voices back but also hope for the future.
