1155 Fast-Tracking Education for Afghan Women and Girls

The 43 Learning Centers (LCs) in Kabul and Herat play a crucial role in providing educational opportunities to disadvantaged men and boys in small communities. In addition to regular classes in academics, computers and other subjects all students at LCs are taught fundamental life skills such as health information, peace education and leadership.

Computer classes are always popular at AIL centers. Students are interested to learn for work and for pleasure. One center reported the students wanted another 15 days of instruction so they could go over the course again and keep improving their skills. There is one LC that just has boys as students learning computing.

Stories tell the story of the impact these classes have.  One center manager had this to say, “We proud to have the people’s trust, especially females. This shows our success.  There are fewer job opportunities in Kabul nowadays but our graduate students get jobs. For example, two graduate students named Madina and Hussina from the center started their own computing course at home. They gathered the girls from their neighborhood and teach them for two hours every day with little fee, because they want to share what they learn with other girls and get some benefit for themselves. They thanked AIL for providing them the opportunity and will never forget AIL’s efforts for them.”

Thank you for your continued support.

AIL is working towards:

SDG Goal 4 – Ensure inclusive and equitable quality education and promote lifelong learning opportunities for all.
