Hello from Zanzibar's Pemba Island!
As we step into 2025, we’re excited to share some news from the past few months at Welcome Ideas! Thanks to your continued support, we’ve educated and empowered even more students through vocational training and practical opportunities in Zanzibar’s tourism sector.
In September, we welcomed a new round of students into our short courses, including Introduction to Tourism, Managing Customer Care, From Earth to Zanzibar (Environmental Sustainability), and, of course, our IT short courses. Through your generosity, we’ve equipped our students with the essential digital skills for job applications and business operations. Additionally, our Vocational Training Authority (VTA) students have continued to utilize the IT lab for job searching, resume building, and managing their small businesses, ensuring they are prepared to enter the workforce with confidence. Many of our VTA students have already secured employment in airports, hotels, tour operators, and restaurants, applying their training in real-world settings and beginning promising careers in the tourism industry.
Our biggest update for 2025 is our move to Pemba, the northern less-developed island of Zanzibar, where we will expand our impact even further. This relocation will allow us to train and empower new students in an emerging tourism market, ensuring that local communities—not outside investors—are the primary beneficiaries of tourism growth. We’re excited to continue providing free vocational training in tourism, hospitality, and entrepreneurship while preserving Pemba’s rich culture and natural environment.
Thank you for being a part of this journey with us. Our school in Kiembe Samaki helped educate over 250 students through our various programs, and we're excited to make an even greater impact with our school in Pemba as tourism begins to grow rapidly on the island. Your support makes all of this possible, and we can’t wait to share more updates as we settle into our new school in Pemba!
Kind regards,
Kenn
