Due to the scarcity of possibilities that the zoo in Yemen is going through, which resulted in a lack of interest from official authorities in zoos for animals and led to a deterioration in the conditions of the parks, the most important of which is the spread of diseases among the animals in the park as a result of the shortage and inability of the acute health aspect in the provision of Veterinary Health and food as a result of illness and hunger, where She considered that this is the most important thing that can be implemented The project aims to provide medical care, emergency protection, food and clean water to meet the immediate needs of animals in zoos in Yemen is a project aimed at providing emergency medical care, food and clean water to animals in zoos in Yemen. Animals in zoos in Yemen are experiencing difficult conditions due to the ongoing conflict in the country.

Many of these animals are in dire need of emergency medical care, food and clean water to survive.
This project aims to provide these basic services to animals in zoos throughout Yemen. This will be achieved by identifying parks that need emergency assistance and providing emergency medical care to sick and injured animals in these parks. Food and clean water will be provided to all animals in these parks on a regular basis.
A long-term plan for the care and ongoing maintenance of these animals will be developed, including the creation of a network of animal welfare organizations and volunteers to provide ongoing support.
The project also aims to support the principles of justice by ensuring that all animals, regardless of their species or origin, have fair access to life-saving interventions. , In this context, involve meeting the urgent needs of each animal in distress, promoting a sense of responsibility for their well-being, and promoting the equitable distribution of resources to enhance their chances of survival Through this project, animals in zoos in Yemen will receive emergency medical care, food and clean water that they need to survive. Long-term care and maintenance of these animals will be ensured by creating a network of animal welfare organizations and volunteers and improving the welfare of animals in zoos in Yemen, ensuring their survival.

 

Activities carried out Sanad has carried out the following activities

  1. 3 meetings were held with the official and popular stakeholders in the target governorates of the project in order to study the search for sufficient funding to preserve the lives of animals in the park that suffer from disease and hunger
  2. A team has been formed to develop a plan to protect animals in parks and improve their health and nutritional status, as well as the appearance of parks. Through the committee formed earlier by the organization, the Environmental Protection Authority, the tourism office and the Agriculture Office
  3.  Implementing a health campaign to treat some animals by hiring 3 veterinarians for a week every month to treat many animals. And (provide dietary supplements, vaccines, vitamins.
  4. Provide a number of detergents, sterilizers and remedies for the treatment of animals exposed to the puppy
  5. Continuous monitoring of the situation in zoos and continuous monitoring of events in what animals are going through in these zoos. The most important of them are the zoos in Sana'a, Taiz and IBB, and to review the health conditions of the multiple animals living there, take care of them in the gardens, limit the damage they suffer and submit reports to the competent authorities.
  6. Continuing to hold awareness sessions among the community surrounding the parks, as well as official and community stakeholders on the need to preserve biodiversity in the Republic of Yemen.
  7. Providing food and meat to some animals in parks on an intermittent basis and according to the available capabilities.


The most important challenges and difficulties :

  •  Lack of resources and lack of support for these activities.
  • Reduced treatment and food due to the scarcity of financial resources.
  •  Low level of awareness of the importance of parks for tourism and the importance of preserving and keeping animals alive . Lessons learned :
  • A high rate of awareness among the community of the importance of protecting animals and taking care of the environment, especially gardens as a park for visitors and for the protection of animals.
  • Interaction of the competent authorities with the activities carried out by Sanid.
  • The community's feeling of love, appreciation and thanks GlobalGiving for cooperation and providing assistance to Yemen and wishes to increase support to achieve the goals of the project and protect animals in parks.

Recommendations :

1- Increase financial support to provide adequate food and medicine for zoo animals.

2- Improving the appearance of the garden and reclaiming the awnings for seating.

3- Providing salaries to the park staff so that they fulfill their duty to take care of the park.
