In Pakistan, over 97 million people live below the poverty line, and more than 20 million are homeless. For them, winter is not simply a season - it's a life-threatening ordeal. The devastating floods of 2022 are one example of how Pakistan faces the brunt of extreme weather caused by climate change, and this winter is set to hit northern regions the hardest with heavy snowfall and temperature drops of up to -20C.
Winters in Pakistan are becoming harsher, with northern regions experiencing temperatures as low as -14C. This year, approximately 20 million people are homeless, struggling to survive the bitter cold. The 2022 floods have left a lasting impact, displacing thousands and depleting resources. Children are particularly vulnerable, with 40% of those under five suffering from stunted growth due to malnutrition. During the winter months, 80% of children lack sufficient food to stay healthy and warm.
This project will provide essential winter relief to the most vulnerable families in Northern Pakistan. By distributing warm clothing, blankets, food packs, and emergency shelters, we will help protect children and families from the extreme cold. The project aims to reduce the risk of illness and malnutrition, ensuring that children and adults stay warm, healthy, and safe during the harsh winter months.
The long-term impact of this project will extend beyond immediate winter relief. By providing shelter, warmth, and nutrition, we aim to reduce winter-related illnesses, malnutrition, and deaths, especially among vulnerable children. In the long run, this support will help stabilize families, allowing them to recover and rebuild their lives.
