Fresh Spirit Wellness for Women has continued to assist individuals and families affected by Domestic Violence. The number of women that contact the organization requesting assistance has increasingly grown since the pandemic began and has not decreased this year. During this last quarter, the entire Fresh Spirit staff have worked many overtime hours to keep up with the demand. The organization is in need of five more employees (2 counselors, a case manager, a housing navigator, and a program coordinator) but is not able to employ more help due to grant funding cuts since the pandemic. Thus, your support is needed now more than ever.
The number of Clients receiving crisis counseling was projected to be 200 but was 1,194, the number of Counseling hours projected was 600 but the hours performed were 1,985. The projected number of support group sessions held were projected to be 40 and we provided 135 groups. The number of survivors projected to assist in the legal process was 20 but we assisted 216 survivors through the legal process of receiving Protective orders and child custody battles. We projected the number of survivors participating in support groups would be 200 but it was 900. These numbers are astounding, and the number of children affected is even more shocking.
Therefore, we continue to work tirelessly. Fresh Spirit also provided Thanksgiving dinner for several families and provided Christmas toys for over 80 children affected by the DV crisis. The joy on the children’s faces was so rewarding. It is because of donations from amazing people like yourselves that we are able to meet the needs of so many.
Again, we could not do this without your support. Unfortunately the only pictures you usually see are victims when violent acts have taken their life. Due to the sensitive nature of our services client photos are confidential. Survivors may have abusers with wealth and long reach. Please enjoy photos from our 17th Annual Toy Drive and know that your contributions are invaluable.
