Hello Donors!
The one-year anniversary of Hurricanes Irma and Maria, two massive hurricanes that caused extensive damage to many of the Caribbean islands, has just passed. The US Virgin Islands of St. Thomas and St. John are included here, both experiencing high levels of damaging wind and rain. After one year the work that remains is substantial, but our All Hands and Hearts team remains on the ground rebuilding homes, schools, and hope for the community.
Though mucking, gutting, and mold sanitizing processes continue, our field teams and volunteers are continuing to make great progress in the recovery phase of many active projects. To date, over 900 volunteers have put in over 83,000 hours of work. As of late September 2018, our field teams have confirmed working on 508 home sites, as well as 25 schools and other community structures. Of those combined sites (totaling 533), 502 have been completed thanks to the generous contributions made by donors like you!
We are pleased to let you know that our commitment to these optimistic, determined communities will carry on well into 2019, as we work to reach people who still need help. One reason this is possible is you: the generous GlobalGiving community has brought us half way to our fundraising goal. We hope to reach our goal in its entirety, so we can bring normalcy back to as many needy families as possible in St. Thomas and St. John over the coming year.
