2024 started well and we have been busy till end October.
Last time, we reported about our ambitious project ‘looking through the lenses of street children’ thanks to the Embassy of the Federal Republic of Germany. This is a project addressing the issue of street children. Those last few months, we have kept using the film ‘Lukas’ but also started with community dialogues. Both the dancers and the film ‘Lukas’ toured Gobabis, Swakopmund, Windhoek (Katutura, Groot Aub and Dorbabis), Rehoboth, Mariental and Keetmanshoop. We also received the very exciting news the young actor playing Lukas, Alejandro Cooper, was nominated as Best Youngest African Actor at the Sotigui Awards 2024 (November, Burkina Faso).
Thanks to Horizon Trust we worked with the Koes Youth Group in the ||Kharas region and they toured schools with their performance. Thanks to the Embassy of Spain, we could tour our piece ‘a picassiana dance’ to Luderitz and Swakopmund. Thanks to the French Consulate in South Africa and the Franco-Namibian Cultural Cultural centre, we produced at the national theatre ‘Discovering Michel’. We rounded the project ‘Gentlemen and Supergirls’ funded by the Embassy of Finland and also performed for the Indonesian National Day.
Sadly, most projects for this year are now completed: we sent the final report to both the Embassy of Finland and Horizon and are about the complete the activities for the ‘stay in school’ project. We haven’t managed to secure much funding for the period November to January (maybe because end November will be elections in Namibia, hence not many activities are planned for that time). This is of concern to us. We do hope we will manage to get through this period, as we have exciting opportunities lined up for next year.
We really thank wholeheartedly those of you who are still supporting us. We know times are difficult, and there’s many projects crying for help all over the world. We therefore value your support tremendously and believe us: right now, your contribution is really making a difference.
