On March 28, 2025, a 7.7 magnitude earthquake struck near Mandalay, Myanmar's second largest city, burying thousands beneath collapsed structures and leaving thousands more injured and without safe shelter, clean water, or adequate medical care. The UN High Commissioner for Refugees estimates that more than 17 million Burmese were affected across the central region with more than 120,000 homes reportedly destroyed and many more structures including hospitals, schools, and mosques destroyed.
Myanmar's ongoing civil war presents extreme challenges for the safety and security of aid agencies desperate to reach those affected with all manner of essential goods and services in dangerously short supply. Global humanitarian groups hampered by civil unrest and political violence within Myanmar have been massing along the Myanmar-Thai border looking to build alliances with local organizations able to facilitate aid support inside the country.
All Hands and Hearts (AHAH), an organization with a 20 year record of service in emergency relief efforts across the world has joined communication clusters to build relationships with local and international organizations responding to the earthquake. We are committing funding to a vetted in-country partner to support a cash-based assistance program along with the in-country procurement and distribution of essential goods.
Given the challenges of responding to an humanitarian crisis in a conflict zone, our impact is currently limited to funding local partners and providing immediate emergency efforts aimed at alleviating suffering, maintaining human dignity, and preserving human life with the goal of reaching those most in need.
