In the aftermath of Typhoon Ompong, Global Peace Foundation Philippines team was able to raise enough funds to purchase kits for 25 families in Sanchez Mira, Cagayan. Each kit includes a disaster preparedness kit, medicines, portable solar lamp and portable water filter.
While emergency relief goods such as food were provided by the local government and other NGOs, access to clean water and electricity remain as challenges for dozens of families in Sanchez Mira. Hence, by providing the kits to the families, GPF Philippines aim to address these challenges to help improve the lives of families affected by Typhoon Ompong in the community.
One of the challenges the team faces in this initiative is the delivery of the kits. Some roads and bridges in the community became impassable for medium and heavy vehicles due to landslides brought by the onslaught of Typhoon Ompong. Our team is closely coordinating with the local government of Sanchez Mira as we aim to address the needs of 150 families affected by Typoon Ompong by the first quarter of 2019.
