Transgender Community need to be mainstreamed

Project Summary

Pakistan’s transgender community faces deep-rooted discrimination, exclusion, and violence—especially in rural Sindh. The lack of access to education, healthcare, employment, and social protection continues to marginalize this vulnerable group.

Through this GlobalGiving project, NDF Pakistan is working to mainstream the transgender community by providing capacity-building opportunities, health referrals, psychosocial support, and platforms for community inclusion and rights awareness.

Transgender rights are human rights — and this project gives the community visibility, dignity, and opportunity.

Progress Highlights

1. Community Engagement & Registration

• Registered 28 transgender persons across Nawabshah

• Created transgender community groups and focal points to support outreach and mobilization

2. Life Skills & Legal Awareness Sessions

• Conducted three workshops covering:

  • Legal rights under Pakistan’s Transgender Persons (Protection of Rights) Act 2018

  • Identity documentation (CNIC) process

  • Health rights and safe spaces

• 47 transgender individuals received certificates of participation

3. Health & Psychosocial Support

• Linked 26 transgender individuals with public health facilities for regular check-ups and HIV screening

• Provided group counseling and trauma support sessions led by a qualified psychologist

• 13 transgender individuals referred to NDF’s vocational training programs

4. Advocacy & Sensitization

• Held community dialogue in Nawabshah with religious leaders, media, and local government on inclusion of transgender persons

• Partnered with local radio to air 6 awareness messages in Sindhi on dignity and rights of the transgender community
