Terrat update

Dry landscape in Terrat, still waiting for rain
Dry landscape in Terrat, still waiting for rain

Hello Friends,

It has been a slow quarter for fundraising to support healthcare in Simanjiro. But there continue to be adverse health impacts on the ground, sadly.

Over the past months a wave of sickness has passed through Northern Tanzania - locals are being told that it is influenza, but the likelyhood is that it may have been the Omicron COVID wave! Our partners in the region report a number of fatalities, sadly.

At the same time, we're seeing the damage being done locally by vaccine scepticism in the Global North. The mother of one of our colleagues, living in Terrat, wanted to be vaccinated against COVID. And the local doctor has doses of vaccine available. But she was unable to find 5 other people to share the vial of vaccine with, as they were too scared, because they seen negative news reports and social media posts from Europe and America about being vaccinated!

We continue trying to help the local medical personnel and the community radio station share the proper public health messages throughout the community. That is one of the main targets of our fundraising in this project at the moment, especially since local resources on the ground are scarce, because the small rains that were due in November have failed, so the local population have been unable to plant their crops, and their livestock is struggling to find food and water...

As ever, if you would like to share this project's fundraising links with friends and family that may be interested in supporting us, please do.

Many thanks from us, and the communities of Simanjiro in Tanzania!

Bernie
