Training 1,500 Women Entrepreneurs in Pakistan

With a goal to improve women’s economic empowerment and promote change of sociopolitical norms for greater gender equality and women’s rights, Moqah Foundation and AGE’s unique combined initiative to empower women has equipped 200 women to become entrepreneurs in their community. Over a course of two years, we targeted two poverty stricken and conflict-ridden communities in the regions of Bhara Kahu and Malpur located on the outskirts of Islamabad, Rawalpindi and in Kot Abdul Malik, a rural area situated near Shiekhupura,

After completing training, the ground staff continued to mentor, support, and coach the women that had received the training. Moqah Foundation also assisted the women in market linkages once they were ready to enter local markets.

The entrepreneurs were interviewed prior to the course, immediately following the course, and then again 6, 12 and 24 months post training. The surveys and Focus Group Discussions measured women’s empowerment, yielding potentially valuable insights. The results helped evaluate the effectiveness of the trainings with 80%+ trainees expressing that they feel like their dreams are attainable and there is hope for the future, 30% of women had started a business resulting increased household income, most of the women were contributing to keeping a family budget and savings plan, there was increased decision-making power among the trainees and diversification in who is earning an income in the household
