An update on your donation to the Syrian Refugee Relief Fund

Thank you for your generous contribution to the Syrian Refugee Relief Fund. Your donations continue to make a difference, especially during a period of remarkable change following the downfall of the former Assad regime

Each dollar enables organizations to provide counseling, food packages, blankets, and shelter to Syrians returning to their homes after 13+ years of displacement. Donations also ensure that Syrian refugees abroad receive the legal services, integration support, and education they need to prosper in their new communities amid waning government aid and policies that halt refugee applications

Since our last update, donations from the Syrian Refugee Relief Fund have supported eight grants to our most trusted, community-led partners supporting Syrians. Our team built this support round in alignment with grants from our Turkiye and Syria Earthquake Relief Fund, as many of our partners are working across both countries to assist those impacted by the earthquakes and could benefit from flexible funding.

Here is a short description of some of the critical work you’ve supported:

  • Space of Peace (SOP) is delivering winter-focused aid to more than 500 Syrians in the form of thermal blankets, clothing, heating materials, and hygiene kits to children, women, the elderly, and people with disabilities. Across its four centers, SOP also provides vocational training, case management, and psychological support services for women, children, and more. With many Syrians living without warm shelters to return to, this emergency aid is critical to them surviving the winter.
  • Jafra Foundation for Relief and Youth Development has recently launched a UXO (Unexploded Ordnance) campaign aimed at educating children on mine safety and raising awareness about the dangers of unexploded bombs. Additionally, Jafra is working with volunteers in cities like Damascus to clear debris and beautify spaces for returning internally displaced Syrians. They’ve also introduced a cash-for-work program, providing women with the opportunity to prepare meals for displaced Syrians within the country.
  • Social Guidance Association (SGA)  is providing much-needed health, hygiene, and social services to Syrian and Lebanese communities still reeling from the impacts of the fighting between the Israeli military and Hezbollah in Lebanon. SGA mobilizes its “Made Clean” program to provide mobile laundry services to internally displaced families living in shelters and on the streets. They also continue their trauma-informed art therapy work with children, offering an outlet for the youngest community members impacted by the violence.
  • Echo100Plus assists displaced people living in Athens in rebuilding their lives in their new community. Echo100Plus offers certified language training and vocational programs to ensure refugees obtain safe, reliable jobs, while also offering social services and legal aid as they go through the asylum process. Wrap-around services like this are increasingly important as governments decrease their support for Syrians following the Assad regime collapse.

As we have said before, your support of the GlobalGiving Syrian Refugee Relief Fund powers community-led responses like these, making a world of difference to ensure no displaced person is left behind.

And now as Syrians rebuild their lives and return home, there is an even greater need to continue supporting our partners on the front lines of caring for their communities and creating the future they long for.

Let us unite in solidarity with our partners and keep supporting their efforts, as it will take all of us.

In gratitude,

Kyra + the GlobalGiving Team

About GlobalGiving’s Disaster Response

When a disaster strikes, recovery efforts led by people who live and work in affected communities are often overlooked and underfunded. GlobalGiving is changing this reality. Since 2004, we've been shifting decision-making power to crises-affected communities through trust-based grantmaking and support.

We make it easy, quick, and safe to support people on the ground who understand needs in their communities better than anyone else.

They were there long before the news cameras arrived, and they’ll be there long after the cameras leave. They know how to make their communities more resilient to future disasters, and they’re already hard at work. GlobalGiving puts donations and grants directly into their hands. Because the status quo—which gives the vast majority of funding to a few large organizations—doesn’t make sense.
