At This Life Cambodia we work directly with School Support Committees (similar to a PTA) in each community to build their knowledge and capacity for developing and improving their schools. We believe that local communities are the experts when it comes to setting and implementing their own development priorities.
Mr. Kot, is a very active SSC member in Kampong Khleang commune. At 58, he is married with 8 children and joined the SSC with a strong commitment to seeing improvements in the school environment and the quality of education in Kampong Khleang lower secondary school.
He is committed to working with his fellow SSC members to raise $3500 from the 10 villages to contribute to the new lower secondary school building.. He also plays an important role in promoting the value of education to the community, raising awareness of the risks of illegal migration and leads his colleagues in visiting families where students are at risk of dropping out.
The new school year starts in November and here is an update on some of the school development projects that your generous donations helped to fund:
Kandal: Constructed a sports ground in the school compound
O Takok: Building dorms for teachers and students (50% complete)
Run Ta Ek: Planted a school garden
Khun Ream: Built a school gate and planted trees
Teuk Lech: Construction of book shelves and purchase of 150 books (50% complete)
Tbeng: Volleyball court construction complete
