With 24 percent of the population over 60 years old, the war in Ukraine is the oldest humanitarian crisis in the world. And, despite humanitarian efforts, older Ukrainians face disproportionate barriers to accessing basic items and support.
At HelpAge USA, we are committed to assisting older people affected by the ongoing crisis in Ukraine. Thanks to donors like you, we've supported more than 153,000 people in need, provided palliative care services for older Ukrainians with serious illnesses, and offered home-based care to help ensure that no one is left isolated or alone.
We're making a difference for older Ukrainians like 61-year-old Nina, whose monthly pension of 5,000 hryvnias ($126 USD) is not enough to meet her medical needs. She suffers from arthritis and requires surgery in both knees. Despite these challenges, Nina finds solace at the HelpAge Community Safe Space in Sambir, supported by HelpAge USA. Here, older people who have fled from other parts of Ukraine can come together, access health services, take classes, and more.
This is the power of your support. Together, we can make sure that older people in Ukraine are no longer overlooked and are able to access the food, shelter, medicine, and essentials they need.
