Knowledge is power, without it, even the most dedicated and determined individual can not be the change they want to see.
Over the past 4 months our incredible Neonatal Trainer, Derrick, has led two Newborn Care Training Courses in Mbale Regional Referral Hospital in eastern Uganda, supporting 36 determined healthcare workers through 15 modules bursting with neonatal skills and knowledge…. Wow!
With 36 determined and passionate doctors, nurses and midwives now ready to start #SavingLivesAtBirth and make #EveryNewborn count, whats not to celebrate!
Oh and we piloted our online post-course exam for the first time with GREAT feedback!
Neonatal deaths (deaths before 28 days of age) are the leading cause of deaths in children under 5 years old globally. Training for healthcare workers in the hospital-based management of sick and small neonates during their formal qualification is often lacking in low-resource settings. Recognising this gap, we have developed a 15-module Newborn Care Training Course (NCTC). We have designed it to be accessible and useful to all cadres of healthcare professionals (nurses, midwives and doctors) who are working with neonates in low-resource settings Our course was first piloted in 5 health facilities in eastern Uganda back in 2015 and has now been delivered 25 times across eastern Uganda.
