Hurricane Milton slammed into Siesta Key on 9 October as a Category 3 hurricane with destructive winds, heavy coastal storm surge and widespread inland flooding. The same vulnerable communities in the greater Tampa Bay region that flooded when Hurricane Helene roared ashore on 26 September were inundated for a second time in two weeks. All Hands and Hearts will provide critical cleanup in underserved areas supporting the community's own locally-driven response.
Intense, sustained rainfall from Hurricane Milton led to severe flooding across an area that had not fully recovered from the previous extreme storm, Helene. Economically and socially vulnerable communities are not only at higher risk for the impacts of environmental hazards, but they are often unable to pay for or perform the necessary disaster cleanup services needed to return their homes to a safe, live-able state. Local organizations will need our help to meet the most critical needs.
With your support, All Hands and Hearts can deploy and sustain its proven model of disaster relief, providing "people power" to high-risk individuals and families in affected areas around region. Our trained staff and reliable, service-oriented volunteer teams actively seek opportunities to plug into locally-led efforts, working together with local partners to provide direct relief for individuals and families and build community resilience alongside those who know the community best.
Our six-month impact aims to reach 180+ households or approximately 400+ individuals (based on the average household size in the area of 2.4) with immediate response and stabilization services: hazard tree removal, muck & gut, mold sanitation and general debris removal. Our funding-dependent 12-month goal aims to reach additional individuals and households with housing recovery scopes that provide essential repairs that further restore homes to a safe, live-able state.
