Donations are urgently needed to support the victims of the devastating earthquake. Every contribution helps deliver immediate emergency relief. Thousands of affected families are in urgent need of emergency shelter, non-food items (NFIs) including clothing and blankets, as well as WASH assistance such as menstrual hygiene kits and access to clean water. In areas with poor sanitary conditions, mobile toilets and hygiene facilities are essential to prevent the outbreak of diseases.
The powerful 7.7 magnitude earthquake has caused widespread destruction in central and southern Myanmar, severely affecting the regions of Sagaing, Mandalay, Naypyidaw, Taungoo, and Southern Shan. The number of confirmed fatalities has exceeded 2,700, and the death toll is expected to rise as search and rescue operations continue. Due to shortages of fuel and technical equipment, rescue activities are severely limited. Thousands of people have lost their homes and are staying in public spaces.
On the ground, Caritas' local partner organization is already coordinating initial relief efforts. Staff are assessing urgent needs and reaching people quickly and efficiently thanks to deep-rooted local networks. The distribution of urgent needed items like clean drinking water, food, medical supplies as well as the provision of temporary shelters has already started.
This project provides urgently needed emergency assistance to the victims of the devastating earthquake, ensuring their immediate survival and securing their livelihoods. In the long term, it supports the reconstruction of critical infrastructure and destroyed buildings to facilitate sustainable recovery.
