Hello!
As we finish our summer season of Vcamps, we want to share the excitement of a mileston reached. Thank to the generosity of donors, we have been able to support more than 1,000 young leaders in Latin America through our programming.
And, we are extremely pleased to share with you that a major focus of our growth this quarter has been around our quest to support diversity.
In order to enhance our ability to find high-potential young leaders from more marginalized communities, LALA has invested staff and resources into outreach via new local partnerships and alliances across Latin America. A testament to these efforts can be seen in our upcoming Brazil VLB7 virtual camp in which 50% of the students identify as Afrobrazilian, a record for LALA and a closer representation of Brazil’s demographic reality.
Last quarter saw notable growth around our DEIA (Diversity, Equity, Inclusion and Access) initiatives for admissions and outreach across Latin America, especially focused on Afrodescendent and Indigenous outreach in Brazil and partnership-building in Mexico, Peru and Colombia.
LALA’s first Spanish V-Camp concluded only a month ago and will be the first of many as we expand our programming into Spanish-speaking Latin America and make LALA accessible to young leaders across Latin America who do not yet have English skills.
Finally, we are excited to expand our DEIA outreach efforts thanks to a USD10,000 Racial Equity Catalyst Grant that LALA received from Echoing Green this quarter.
We look forward to reporting further on this theme of diversity given that it is a priority for us.
Sending you all the best,
Team LALA
