Wellness for Greatness Kenya is in the process of getting approval from the Ministry of Education to implement a pilot project in NCD Health Literacy on Diabetes. The Diabetes health literacy will target 300 learners in 20 schools in 3 counties of Kenya.
We shall train four teachers in every school who will become the Diabetes Health Champions and we shall also recruit Diabetes Health Ambassadors in every school.
A wellness council will also be set up to address issues affecting learners and teachers living with Diabetes.
While executing the pilot the following activities will also take place:
1. Sports, Physical Activity, and Physical Literacy: We shall engage learners in sports and physical activity and educate them on physical literacy. These sessions will take place during PE and games time.
2. Nutrition and Food systems: We shall educate learned on the importance of healthy foods and healthy eating, through agriculture clubs in schools we shall grow healthy foods at schools and at home. We shall engage parents and the community.
