Lilipad Friends,
We hope you’re all doing well and keeping healthy. We’re pleased to share the biggest updates from the last couple of months.
First up, some exciting news! We’ve just completed the openings of our very first French libraries. This project is in collaboration with the local social enterprise RésidSocial. They’re doing incredible work in Paris, providing shelter to families from underserved communities.
We opened libraries in two of the RésidSocial “hotels” (Paris 12 and Chaligny) and both will be run as satellite libraries by our partner. Workshops are taking place at the Lilipad Library which is super exciting, and families are already borrowing books from our shelves.
This means we’re now active in 4 countries: Uganda, Morocco, Germany, and now France!
And we didn’t stop there. In Berlin, Germany, we also launched 2 brand new projects: on the 4th of November, we officially opened our newest library in Lichtenberg (BENN Wartenberg). As an opening event, two of our volunteers read stories in the Kamishibai style to the children at the library. Kamishibai is a traditional Japanese storytelling performance involving picture cards that children love.
Our satellite library in Altglienicke is well underway, just a few weeks away from the official launch.
Meanwhile, in the rest of our locations, we continue to organize exciting workshops that bring our communities (teachers, families, kids, and volunteers) together.
Workshops such as:
Last but not least, we’ve started preparing our 3rd biggest crowdfunding campaign on GlobalGiving. We’re kicking off on the 29th of November, and we want to make it count! Building on the success of the €15,000 raised last year, we’ve set an ambitious goal of €25,000 euros for 2022. This will help us to keep making an impact at our current libraries, launch brand new projects and keep making an impact on children's lives with education.
There are a few ways you can get involved:
We’re looking forward to sharing exciting news with our next quarterly update.
Yours,
The Lilipad Team
