Our Elders Do Matter!
Dear supporters,
Being our mission to promote and inspire scientific knowledge, we are really happy to share with you the wonderful experience we have had with our elders, for whom we have organized an interdisciplinary conference and experimental cycle titled “Science for the Elders” (Ciencia para Mayores) at the Eugenio Trias Municipal Library in Madrid.
Especially after these hard years with the COVID pandemic, we cannot forget about our elders. Thanks to your help, we have invited them to attend four educational activities consisting of talks, debates and scientific experiments at the fabulous El Retiro Park. This time we have combined the educational aspects, both lecture and hands-on activities, with the necessary social interaction in a workshop format. More than sixty people attended some day!!!
Once a month, in four different sessions, an expert on the specific field has guided the participants into the knowledge of healthy aging, Alzheimer’s disease, microbiota and psychology (particularly stress). As we can see, all of the topics are chosen to attract an elderly audience as they relate to the importance of adopting healthy habits and behaviors in our daily lives to enjoy a good quality of life and prevent diseases. Not only have they learnt about topics of their interest, but they have also enjoyed taking part in ludic scientific experiments carried out by our fantastic volunteers.
We strongly believe these workshops enrich our elders’ practical knowledge while giving them the opportunity to have fun and use their creativity. They have shown great interest, asked lots of questions and talked about their doubts and worries. Their motivation has really inspired us.
So, once again, thank you very much for making it possible!!
