This past few months, our Social Worker conducted home-to-home assessments in the community of Plan de Avila, Guatemala to determine how many families are in need of a safe, energey efficient cookstove, latrine and/or clean water filter.
The results of the extensive survey determined 21 more homes need a safe cookstove to prevent thick soot from filling the home when the mothers cook meals each day. Safe cookstoves will reduce respiratory infections, burns caused by children (mostly) falling into open flame fires in the home, and it will reduce the amount of wood required for cooking.
In addition, the school needs kitchen improvements as well if they are going to provide a safe cooking environment at school as well.
Plan de Avila is just one of many villages our team serves in Guatemala. Our goal is to see 100% of families using safe cookstoves in their homes. As a result, we know we will see improved health, which will have a direct impact on children attending school and parents able to go to work regularly.
Together with your support, HRI has secured a grant to ensure our goal of 100% safe cookstoves coverage in Plan de Avila will be implemented by March 2024!
After those projects are implemented, with your continued support, we will continue to work on 100% safe cookstoves coverage in Las Brisas and El Retiro in Cuilapa (southern Guatemala) and begin implementing stove projects in Tierra Colorada Alta in Quetzaltenango (Northern Hightlands) soon as well.
Thank you for your support of HR's Safe, Energy Efficient Cookstoves Projects in Guatemala!
