3 More Homes Received Safe Cookstoves - Meet One

By Jennifer Jones | Director of Donor Relations & Communications

Thank you for partnering with Hunger Relief International (HRI) to provide Safe, Energy Efficient Cookstoves to three families living in remote villages in rural Guateamla in the month of July!

WATCH THIS VIDEO UPDATE FROM GUATEMALA

Zaida and her family of 5 needed a safe cookstove so her toddler Antony would stop falling sick and having to go to the hospital every month. Thanks to our partners, they now have a stove with ventilation! Here's their story:

Zaida has three children. Juan Carlos and Deylin are beneficiaries of our School Feeding Program in the village Plan de Avila, in Cuilapa, Santa Rosa, Guatemala where they attend primary school. Young Antony is a toddler who stays at home with his mother and constantly falls ill. The father of the home is a farmer making barely enough to feed his family once a day.

Before we provided this new safe cookstove, Zaida cooked with an open fire which put the health of everyone in the house at risk, especially young Antony. He has been suffering so badly that they have had to take him to a hospital once a month for medication due to smoke inhalation.

Their new safe cookstove and ventilation system now removes all smoke from the home. It is also safer for young Antony than an open fire. And requires much less wood (which costs money and time for the family to buy / carry).

We are so grateful for every HRI partner. Together we are saving and improving lives!
