As the world continues to grapple with the impact of COVID-19, the situation remains precarious in Guatemala. Despite decisive action on behalf on the Guatemalan government to contain the virus, the rate of infection continues to grow. Many restrictions and closures remain in effect and citizens are showing their cooperation. As such, our team is operating with all the precautions, but also rising to new heights in their work and getting creative to ensure that help gets to where it is needed most.
Many families face dire situations - no food, no way to earn money, and no way to mobilize out of their communities. To combat this we are working closely with community leaders and providing emergency food and hygiene assistance to the most vulnerable households - including elderly, disabled, single parents; etc. We are also working on long term food security by assisting small farmers with seed and other products they need to plant their fields.
At this time, we have paused the delivery of new stoves, as we are unable to mobilize into the communities without putting them at risk. As soon as we are able to resume our activities in the communities, new stoves will be delivered! In the meantime, hundreds of people continue to breathe more safely and be at lower risk for respiratory complications because of this project.
Thank you for your continued support and understanding as we work to find solutions in the current situation.
