No woman should die giving life. Yet in Manyatta Slum, Kisumu, Kenya, too many mothers and newborns lose their lives to preventable childbirth complications - simply because they lack basic supplies. Together with Kind Heart Organization Kenya, YORGHAS Foundation is providing 100 sterile Mama Kits to vulnerable pregnant women. Each kit contains essential items for a clean and safe delivery. In Manyatta Slum, one of the largest informal settlements in Kisumu, many women and newborns die from preventable complications during pregnancy and childbirth. Women give birth at home or in under-equipped clinics without sterile tools, clean materials, or basic hygiene items, putting both mother and baby at serious risk of infection, complications, or death. Access to safe birthing kits can mean the difference between life and death - empowering mothers with dignity and safer deliveries.
Clean birth practices are vital in reducing infection-related maternal and neonatal deaths. Our project will provide 100 quality safe birthing kits (Mama Kits) to expectant mothers in the community. Each kit includes sterile gloves, a sterile surgical blade, sterile cord clamps, sterile gauze, a medical sheet, and soap. Kits will be delivered with health counseling by Nyasoro Medical Clinic, empowering women with tools and knowledge for safer childbirth and reducing preventable deaths.
By providing Mama Kits, we aim to save up to 200 lives - both mothers and their newborns - and restore dignity to women who are too often forgotten. This project is not just about one safe birth; it's about igniting a lasting shift in health awareness and resilience within the community. Our goal is to significantly reduce maternal and neonatal deaths in Manyatta Slum. Every Mama Kit brings us closer to a world where all mothers and babies survive and thrive - no matter where they were born.
