500th Well Drilled!
We are so excited to announce that we've drilled more than 500 wells since our first in 2005! This is a huge milestone that we couldn't have reached without you, our supporters. We've been able to serve hundreds of thousands of vulnerable people living without access to clean water because of you. Thank you for watering the seeds of change in South Sudan!
New National NGO in South Sudan:
In 2020, WFSS formed a new legal entity in South Sudan, Water for South Sudan Foundation, as a national NGO, at the recommendation of Salva and AJ, so that they could qualify for funding as a local organization in South Sudan. You might know that the trend in international development is to fund more local organizations like ours.
Water for South Sudan, Inc., the 501c3 organization, remains an INGO (international NGO) with headquarters in Rochester. The new NNGO is funded by WFSS, Inc., in the way it has always operated, and the new NNGO can also compete for local, in-country funding. They have already had some great success!
Contracts Completed in 2020-21
The WFSSF team continues to be led by Country Director AJ, and advised by Salva, as Senior Strategy Director. AJ successfully supported the team during the 2020-21 operating season to complete a hygiene project for Oxfam and well drilling contracts for:
UNICEF Partnership
We are delighted to announce that UNICEF has officially formed a partnership with WFSSF as a local NGO. Our first project is to deliver WASH services in Warrap State, with a particular focus on schools and clinics. The nine-month project officially launched in October.
