One on One Counseling Support

We are so grateful to be able to continue to serve refugees in Uganda!  Thanks to you we can keep on serving!   Uganda continues to host over 1.4 million refugees.  We are hosting the most refugees in all of Africa.  Its a privilege that we can bring hope and healing to so many in need.

During these past few months, our team has busy providing programs to leaders, families, individuals and even the host community where the refugees are staying.  Here are a few highlights:

Refugee Settlement Couples Program

Due to the increased gender based violence that was reported in one of the areas in the refugee settlement during this past year, I Live Again Uganda was tasked to bring counseling and training to couples in the area.  As an organization one of our core values is Family.  We recognize the importance of the family in the life of an individual and in the culture we serve.  We registered 105 participants in our training program. This programs was designed to restore hope in marriage, parenting skills, how to make decisions as a couple, stress management in the home and the roles of a husband and a wife in a home.  Our goal was to reduce gender based violence and restore hope and unity in marriages and the family unit.

Refugee Settlement Leadership Program

In the refugee settlement, there are Refugee Welfare Council Leaders.  We had the privilege of hosting a training for 138 Leaders with their spouses.   We focused our training on the challenges of Leadership, how to be good leaders and how to care for your family in the midst of leadership.  It was a powerful and life changing time together!  I Live Again Uganda has been requested to bring more training like this to leaders in the refugee settlement.

Host Community Counseling Program

Beyond the refugee settlement, we are required (by the Ugandan governement) and honored to serve the host community.  The host community is the area in which the refugee settlement is located.  How can we serve refugees without serving the community that has given land to host the refugees?   Providing services for the host community is extremely important.  I Live Again Uganda provided Trauma Counseling to the host community.  The uniqueness of the host community is that they have also faced war and displacement.  They understand what so many refugees from South Sudan have endured.  As northern Uganda faced more than 20 years of civil unrest, the people in the region continue to deal with the trauma of their past.   I Live Again Uganda's trauma counseling program was birthed during the civil unrest in the northern region.  Over 450 men and women attended our group trauma counseling program.  We focused our time with this community on topics such as: trust, the importance of having a vision for your life, signs of stress and trauma, recoving from stress and trauma, knowing the truth and more!  One on one counseling support was also provided to over 20 individuals in this community that requested this service.   We celebrated the healing of so many in this community with a football match and a meal together!

It has been a fulfilling few months!  Our work continues thanks to partners that stand with us to see the restoration of refugees from South Sudan.  Thank you for your support!
