This projects aims to provide access to legal assistance for children who come into conflict with the law as well as social services to children who are detained in and released from correctional facilities. Legal representation will be provided to ensure that all child cases undergo fair trial devoid of prejudiced judgement. Children and families will be provided with various types of social support during the child's detention and after the child's release including food and therapy.
When children below the age of 18 come into conflict with the law their dignity and worth is often not guaranteed in line with international and regional conventions. This is because children lack a basic understanding of their rights and access to legal representation is limited or none existent. Due to prison conditions reformation, rehabilitation and reintegration back into society for children becomes difficult.
The project will provide free legal services to children who are in conflict with the law from the police station though the court process. The project will also support children through individual and family therapy sessions while they are in custody and when released from correctional facilities to reform, rehabilitate and reintegrate into society .
This action will promote the child's sense of dignity and worth while bringing about true reformation, rehabilitation and reintegration of former child offenders back into society. Ultimately, this will lead to better communities and respect for child rights.
