In order to deal with a post-COVID impact on health and development crisis faced by rural communities, and to prepare for a possible third wave of the pandemic, Barefoot College is launching a cadre of “rural COVID warriors” under a new social support fellowship program.
Every member of staff working with the organisation will be involved in an ongoing community immersion exercise to understand contemporary community issues. Each staff member will have responsibility to plan and execute the program in partnership with at least one village.
These ‘karyakartas’ will reach out to the marginalised communities living in the village to learn and address gaps in delivery of health services or social welfare services provided by government agencies.
The karyakartas will also conduct educational surveys to determine if the communities have access to mobile phones or other means to access online classes for digital learning. They will also identify any children who may have lost parents or guardians due to COVID.
Your continued support will help the Barefoot College Tilonia extend its support to 200 villages in Silora and Jawaja blocks of Ajmer district in rural Rajasthan, India.
