An overview of the tragic situation of childhood in Yemen

 

Childhood in Yemen is going through its most dangerous phase and turning point at the present time as a result of the wars, crises and conflicts that have been ongoing for 10 years. The Yemeni child has become exposed to all intellectual, sexual and psychological risks as a result of the polarization practiced by terrorist groups and parties to the conflict in Yemen. Hence came the idea and necessity of rapid and strong intervention in child protection procedures in Yemen through the implementation of the project to protect children in light of conflicts and wars, as this project is of utmost importance in preserving the rights of the Yemeni child from violations and working to protect his rights in all educational, psychological, health and other fields so that he can live in peace like the rest of the children of the world, in addition to protecting him from polarization by armed groups, which makes him quickly involved in crimes of all kinds. The project also aims to do the following:

  Activities carried out during the reporting period

 

Sanid has implemented the activities according to its available capabilities and in accordance with the support and donations it received from Global .

vNumber of students from targeted children   from Attend To the classes according to their educational levels, 1,325 male and female students passed the academic year during the academic year 2024/2025 AD.

vShe also provided social and psychological counselling to a number of targeted children, adding them to the resource room and teaching them early reading. 

vIn the field of psychological support, 46 individual and group psychological support sessions were conducted by social and psychological specialists for children exposed to various types of violence, benefiting 423 children, both male and female.

vThree workshops were held for psychologists and social workers to discuss the results of the targeted cases who had been subjected to violence and were in need of health and psychological care, and to identify appropriate methods for each type and case.

 

Challenges .

  • Deterioration of the general health and educational situation in the targeted areas.
  • Lack of salaries for contracted psychologists, social workers, and protection counselors.
  • Lack of capacity to cover all children within the protection programme.
  • Lack of support and donations.
  • The continuation of wars and conflicts, the exacerbation of crises, and the increase in the number of displaced persons.
  • The spread of diseases and epidemics among children, causing dozens of deaths in targeted areas, and the weakness of health and medical services.

 

 Recommendations :

  • Redouble efforts to provide support and assistance to save the largest number of children exposed to violations and violence in all its forms.
