Overview of the tragic situation of children in Yemen
Intruduction :Sanid for Relief and Development faces major challenges in implementing its child protection programs in Yemen, due to the severe lack of financial support. This report aims to shed light on the deteriorating humanitarian situation of children in Yemen, the impact of the lack of funding on protection programs, and to propose practical solutions to address this crisis .The humanitarian situation of children in Yemen :Yemen is experiencing a severe humanitarian crisis, with children suffering from grave violations of their rights. These violations include :• Displacement and displacement : which exposes children to the risk of exploitation and violence .• Malnutrition : negatively affects children's physical and mental development .• Deprivation of education : The destruction of schools and the suspension of salaries deprive millions of children of education .• Sexual violence : Children are exposed to sexual violence in various forms .• Recruitment : Children are recruited into armed groups .Impact of lack of funding on protection programs :• Reduced services : Lack of funding leads to reduced services for children, such as health, psychological and social care .• Difficulty in accessing affected areas : It becomes difficult to reach remote and affected areas to provide aid .• Lack of trained personnel : Lack of funding makes it difficult to attract and train qualified personnel to work in the field of child protection .• Deteriorating infrastructure : Lack of funding affects the organization's ability to maintain and develop the infrastructure needed to provide services . According to reports from international and humanitarian organizations, children in Yemen face many challenges and urgent needs that have been focused on, including the following :• Protection : Children in Yemen are exposed to violence, exploitation, targeting of child soldiers and forced recruitment . • Health care : Disease outbreaks have a significant and direct impact on the health of children in Yemen . • education : The education system in Yemen has been severely damaged by the conflict, affecting children’s right to education . • Nutrition : Many children in Yemen suffer from acute and chronic malnutrition. • Psychological and social needs : Children in Yemen suffer from psychological trauma due to ongoing conflict and violence .• Displacement : Many children face In Yemen, there is a state of ongoing forced displacement and they live in displacement camps or in inadequate hosting conditions and suffer from deprivation in housing, health care and education and are exposed to various forms of violence .
Children are also exposed In Yemen, there are risks of forced migration and human trafficking . Lack of access to water, sanitation , clean water and good health services. · Conducting community awareness sessions To enhance efforts to eliminate the phenomenon of forced recruitment of children and work to rehabilitate child soldiers .• Providing basic health care for children, Facilitating access to health services and vaccines and providing them with emergency and secondary health services.• healthy and nutritious food for children and promoting nutritional programmes directed at them through the Child Malnutrition Treatment Programme.• Conducting talks with school administrations and education departments to facilitate the acceptance of children at risk of dropping out of school and exposed to violations and violence as a result of their inability to continue their education due to their living conditions, as arrangements are being made to enroll them in schools after exempting them from tuition fees and providing them with school bags and supplies during the year 2024 AD.• 425 children who were exposed to some types of violence were enrolled in psychological and social support sessions : through psychological and social specialists. Providing counselling and psychological support in displacement camps to help children deal with the effects of conflict and violence .• Implementation of 46 group awareness sessions and 58 individual awareness sessions on promoting children’s rights In Yemen • Develop a plan and study to provide humanitarian and development aid : to support Children and the development of their talents and skills, including : And food aid for their families .Activities carried out:Since the beginning of 2024, SANID has focused on aspects of protection, awareness, and providing psychological support to children in Yemen, with few measures to provide humanitarian aid due to the weak capabilities and weak donations and funds needed by this segment of society.Due to the scarcity of financial resources and donations, SANID has prepared an alternative plan to confront emergencies and lack of support, which consists of contacting, communicating and coordinating with the relevant authorities inside Yemen to conclude agreements and facilitate a number of targeted children to accept them in schools and exempt them from tuition fees, while providing them with some services. The international community, humanitarian organizations and donors must increase their support to Yemen, and allocate a greater portion of humanitarian aid to protecting children and providing for their basic needs .Recommendations :• Increase financial support : Donors and international organizations should increase financial support to SANID and other organizations working in the field of child protection in Yemen .• Providing technical support : Providing technical support to the organization to enhance its capabilities to implement its programs .• Facilitating procedures : Facilitating bureaucratic procedures to speed up the process of providing aid .• International cooperation : Strengthening international cooperation to address the challenges facing children in Yemen .Sanid Organization for Relief and Development It affirms its commitment to providing the best services to children in Yemen, and calls on all concerned parties to cooperate in order to protect the future of Yemeni generations .
