Project visit

I am happy to report that I recently visited our projects in Ocotal.

It`s always great to visit our healthcare project, meet with our staff, and see the communities. For two weeks, I joined the mobile clinic and accompanied our team in the villages. We have been visiting the same villages for nearly twenty years and have established a close connection between patients and brigadistas. Our team of nurse, driver, doctor and dentist is cooperating very well together. They are enthusiastic about bringing high quality service to the people. I am especially impressed by our doctor who really takes her time to question, listen to, and closely examine each patient she sees.

We arranged a quarterly teaching session with our brigadistas in Ocotal, explaining the changes and new drugs in our brigadistas’ small pharmacies called botequines. I was very happy to see them all together as a group and experience the close and trusting relationship with our brigadistas that has developed through the years.

Our mobile clinic’s four-wheel drive Toyota pickup truck is now seventeen years old. It is a great and reliable vehicle that has transported us over very bad roads to distant villages, but now needs some extensive repairs. Replacing our truck will be a major expense, for which we will need to raise special funds. For now, we are keeping our faithful truck running as best we can.
