Food for Hospital Patients and Families

By Aazer Durrani | Head of Marketing

Pakistan ranks 77 out of 109 countries on the Global Food Security Index. According to Vision 2025, 60 percent of the country’s population is facing food insecurity, and 44 percent of children under five years of age are chronically malnourished.

Food and nutrition insecurity in the country are primarily attributable to limited economic access as well as an inadequate and lack of diverse diet for the poorest and most vulnerable. The process of return of internally displaced people to federally administered tribal areas continues.

Food insecurity has two dimensions: availability and affordability. Over the past three years, Pakistan’s double digit food price inflation in tandem with declining incomes has made more and more Pakistanis food insecure – from an affordability perspective. Poverty, food insecurity, malnutrition, frequent infections, ill health, mortality, hidden hunger and crime are all closely related to each other.

The primary challenge facing the government at the moment is to curb the spread of COVID-19 and minimize its socio-economic impacts.

In an attempt to cope with the changing and worsening climate, families are forced to adopt strategies that mean they can survive in the short term but that undermine their resilience in the longer term. For example, they might sell livestock and other assets for less than they are worth, take children out of school or migrate to other districts, abandoning some of their belongings. These coping mechanisms can compromise the wellbeing of children and women in particular.

During the ongoing Pandemic (COVID19), Fatima Memorial Hospital has been playing a vital role in treating as many patients as it possibly could. Since the hospital provides various medical facilities and that too to the needy and deserving patients, it requires support from the donors in providing healthcare facilities and food to the patients.

Now that the COVID19 outbreak has reduced, the patients flow at the hospital is on the rise. These are all deserving patients and their families for whom Fatima Memorial Hospital provides meals. Your contributions have made it possible for us to provide food to these needy patients and their families. We hope that you will continue this cycle of hope for these people.

We urge you to support us and help us provide food to these poor families. Keep supporting our cause!

Thank you
