Compliments of the new season ! We hope your transition into 2023 was a joyful & safe one.

The Education Africa Marimba Hub project, are preparing for an eventful year -- our annual Sounds of Celebration, Virtual Marimba & Steelpan Festival, as well as our first live Marimba & Steelpan Festival since the pandemic changed everything! And while we gear up for what we believe will be another successful year of Making real change Happen and empowering the youth in under-resourced communities, we can't help but look back at our last 2022 Marimba event.

In December, Education Africa in partnership with the South Africa/America Music Exchange (SAME) initiative hosted the Sounds and Words of Remembrance Concert Honouring Nelson Mandela - a music extravaganze that brought 190 musicians together on one stage! This was in an attempt to amplify the spirit of unity and collaboration - through music.

For many - the 40-piece Marimba Band from Education Africa's very own Marimba Hubs programme also featured in the concert - was a highlightHaving a concert performance to work towards provides the needed motivation for many learners to refine their musical skills, to work as a team, and perform – a process that builds confidence, community, and a love of music.

Other highlights include the all-women Jazz Ensemble with US-based Regina Carter, and Gayelynn McKinney and SA-based Siya Makuzeni, Chantal Willie-Peterson and Ulagh Williams, as well as an African music ensemble with South African Dizu Plaaitjies, American Mark Stone, and Ugandan Albert Bisaso Ssempeke.

It was a musical experience like never before - and we can't wait to have more experiences like it! Thank you for your enduring support to help Make real change Happen!
