Spring 2025 Malawi Refurb Wells Interim Report

By Tom Webber | U.S. Development Director

This quarter Bridgit Water Foundation has continued strengthening our commitment to the ACFID Code of Conduct by deepening its principles into the design and delivery of our projects in Malawi. Community engagement has always been a key element of Bridgit’s projects in underserved communities. Consultations conducted in partnership with local leaders and women's groups to ensure the voices of all community members—especially women, people with disabilities, and marginalised households—are meaningfully represented in the planning process.

In line with ACFID’s emphasis on accountability and effectiveness, we’ve also enhanced our monitoring and evaluation processes. By introducing improved tools to track water point usage, maintenance practices, and community training participation, we’re ensuring projects remain sustainable long after implementation. Your support through GlobalGiving enables us to uphold these standards and deliver inclusive, community-led solutions that create lasting change.

One of Bridgit’s standout successes came from the village of Chaseta near the Nkotakota Wildlife Reserve, where a previously non-functional borehole was restored. The borehole now provides safe, reliable water to over 1,300 people. Community member Hope, a widowed mother of four, shared:

“Before this project, I spent hours walking to the river, and my children often missed school to help. Now, we have clean water nearby, and I’ve even started a small vegetable garden to feed my family.”

Her story illustrates how water access transforms not just health outcomes, but livelihoods and opportunities for entire households. Thank you for being part of this mission.
