The year 2022 began with a stifling crisis in oil derivatives and domestic gas in most Yemeni regions, including the Malhan area in Al Mahwit Governorate, which contains the most important natural reserve in the governorate in particular and in the northwestern regions of Yemen in general.
This has contributed to the return of many Yemeni families to the traditional method of using excessive Cutting down trees, especially in the Malhan Nature Reserve, which hosts the largest biological diversity in the region.
Bakeries and ovens also switched to using wood instead of gas or kerosene with about 17,500 tons of firewood annually, which caused a boom in the firewood trade and increased demand for it.
Our benefactors, that at this critical time, we need to expand the circle of environmental awareness, especially in the Malhan Reserve, to limit the excessive Cutting down trees and the extensive and random exploitation of the forested vegetation cover and the resulting deterioration of the vegetation cover and the spread of drought phenomena and environmental imbalances.
