Loving Pre-school Education in Java, Indonesia
Dear Kind Donors,
Learning, Understanding and Growing
Thank you so very much for all your wonderful support. Our school, The Lilliput World, is still young – so young that it is less old than any of our toddler students – and your support has helped it continue to grow and gain strength since we welcomed our first students in September 2021.
As we near the end of this term we can look back on a host of recent activities focusing on children’s learning and well-being and the professional development of our teachers. We have been fortunate to receive friends and supporters from abroad as well as within Indonesia and had guest lectures by distinguished educationists such as Professor Slamet, who inspired teachers with insights and tips on how to boost children's social and emotional intelligence to prepare them for life ahead, and Ms. Pritta, who shared practical advice for teachers on how to ensure that every child in the class is well and appropriately supported.
Our students are at the heart of everything we do and, greatly appreciating the trust placed in us by their parents, we work as closely as we can with parents, involving them with school activities as they wish. Parenting classes over the past few months have been popular and covered themes such as Maintaining a Good Home-School Connection: The Montessori Way and Nurture Yourself and Nurture Your Child. Children have had fun too, celebrating festivals and enjoying a magical costume party, as well as going on mini-trips including to the Vredeburg Museum, a former military fort converted into a cultural institution.
Late last year we welcomed our first intern, Ms Ayu, an environmental activist from Bali who ran several successful workshops on waste management. This global concern is of particular relevance to us in our rural setting in Central Java where awareness of reducing plastic waste, amongst other issues, needs to be raised. It’s been great to see children bringing some of these environmental lessons back home to Lilliput World parents and so becoming teachers themselves. With Earth Day approaching, now we are preparing for a campaign called Go Green! It's Our Turn to Lead! in which students will learn how to reduce, reuse and recycle waste – and share their knowledge and practice with others.
Thank you for all your support; we look forward to being in touch again soon as we continue to seek to Learn, Understand and Grow!
With best wishes from all of us at Yayasan Taman Cipta Karya Nusantara
